The Reminder Popup
From time to time you will see a notification window asking you to update your Mac operating system. This is done to fix security flaws and bugs which means that we want you to apply these updates to prevent any security breach.
When an update is due, you will see the window above popup.
- Press Update Device to open the system updater and proceed with the update.
- Alternatively, press the Defer button to delay the update. You have the choice of a few minutes, an hour, a day or even several days deferral using the Custom option.
- About this update displays more info about the update.
- This section displays info about the minimum required macOS version and how long you can defer the update for.
Software Update
If you selected to Update Device you should see the Software Update window below
- Upgrade Now will upgrade to the latest release of macOS.
- Sometimes More info… is offered when there's a minor update to your system. You may prefer to install the minor updates because they take less time. If you do select this option, make sure it meets the minimum requirement shown in step 4 earlier.
In most cases you should press Upgrade Now, enter your password when prompted and go have a coffee. A macOS update can take between 20-60 minutes.
